Audio Visual Installation, 2015~
Landscape is an interactive audio-visual installation that invites people to touch outlines of the landscape on paper and see it awakening with sound and light. The installation is in two part – layered paper with outlines of landscape with projected light, and a paper controller where audience can interact with each layer of installation to enlighten the sound and light of the landscape. The project is a platform to build a series of multiple landscapes creating multiple experiences.
How does our landscape shape our life? And what will happen if we could turn it into soundscape? We often see soundwaves visualized – they often look like some type of landscape with mountains and valleys. Could we reverse the technique and ‘audiolize’ an outline of a landscape? How would it sound like? With no knowledge of sound, I had this questions, and threw them back to my friend Ezra – a beatboxer, artist and founder of artist collective Organic Orchestra based in France – while his visit in Korea in this Spring. Conversation went further, and there the project began as a quest for answers.
Continuing from the birth of the idea in Korea, the first edition of the series came to a life in France over the ten days in Augmented Paper Workshop organized by Ezra and his company Organic Orchestra at Hexagone, in France this Fall. In collaboration with many talents from the workshop, we implemented the first working prototype of the project to be exhibited as a part of Experimenta 2015 Salon Arts Sciences Technologies. This was created based on the landscape of southern Korea, which was initial place of inspiration.
